Fred Perry (1909-95) was the last British man to win a Grand Slam singles title and one of only six men to win all four. This statue at Wimbledon was unveiled in 1984, 50 years after his first win. A blue plaque marks the house in Stockport in which he was born. The town’s new civic building, Fred Perry House, opened last November.
